The Infinite Game by Simon Sinek

To summarise the book, essentially most people view everything as finite, when there are actually infinite “games” all around us, like say business. Though companies are run by executives that are focused on the short term gain, they need to understand the bigger picture, that despite how good they may do now, the game goes on and on and on, and being hung up on arbitrary metrics like stock price becomes, arbitrary. Simon Sinek goes on to explain that in order to have an infinite mind, you must have 5 things:

1. a just cause

2. Find like minded individuals whom you can trust and build a team with

3. Have Worthy Rivals who are good at your weaknesses and from whom you can continually learn and improve

4. Prepare to do existential flexing (take huge risks like completely changing your strategies or business model when the advancement of your just cause is in jeopardy)

5. Demonstrate the courage to lead by being fully committed to your just cause, despite what outsiders may say

In each of these points, Simon Sinek throws in many real life (mostly company related) examples and the whole book becomes an argumentative essay more or less. First, to me at least, he came off as a smartass with many conclusive statements implying that “this is the only way this can be done” and of course ultimately he is selling you his ideas, and he has to say things with confidence. Overall, though many examples are cherry picked, and though his arguments feel very one sided, there is no doubt that his ideas are thought-provoking at the very least. As a 20 year old army personnel, with zero real life work experience, perhaps many things have went over my head. That’s why I hope that my note taking can be revisited by my future self and something just clicks in my mind. Regardless of whether that actually happens, it’s really nice to have been exposed to an unorthodox view of business from Simon Sinek and I can’t wait to instil my mind with more perspectives.

6.5/10

By the way, I have attached my notes on the book below. Managed to reduce the word count from about 57,600 words to 9,800. To be honest it's still excessive. Just keep in mind, the 5 conditions you must fulfil for an infinite mindset.
